Gotou-egen was written by Husai Okawa (1179-1253) and published in 1253 (Houyu 1). This contains the lives of Seven Buddhas of the past, twenty-seven masters of the Western Heaven, 6 masters of Eastern Land, 南岳下十七世、青原下十六世.The duplicated parts of the description in Gotou (『景徳伝灯録』、『天聖広灯録』、『建中靖国続灯録』、『聯灯会要』、『嘉泰普灯録』) were sorted out and put them into one volume.The original wood blocks were destroyed in the war. However it was republished in 1364. The Japanese equivalents were printed in 1364-8 (Gozan version), Muromachi era, Kan'ei, and Banreki. The present copy has 2 introductions, from whose description 「崇禎甲戌年正月望日釋後學費隠通容和南題」tells that the date of publication was 1634 in China. The last three folios are lost in vol. 20, which were completed in manuscript.
