The present volume was written by Shiren Kokan (虎関師錬:1278-1346). He finished writing this work at Kaizo-in,Tohukuji temple in August,1322 (Genko 2). The author belonged to the Shoichi school of the Rinzai sect,and is also known as one of the monks of Gozan-Bungaku in Kyoto. After the completion of his book,he resided at Tohukuji temple,Nanzenji teple,etc.,and again at Kaizo-in of Tohukuji temple. Genko-Shkusho has been printed several times so far (in 1364-1377,1384-1391,1599,1605,1617,1624). Our Library's collection is the edition (impression) of 1605 (Keicho 10),which was printed by Shozo Shimomura下村生蔵 (who was one of the leading figures in the field of printing those days), according to the description at the back of fol. 75 in vol. 10 (慶長巳歳仲夏日 下村生蔵刊之).
